Web Assignment (worth marks) Thursday, April 22

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Project

This assignment should be typed and each question must be answered completely. You may navigate any website you can access for the answers, but you must source (write down the web address not just the title) each site at the end of your project.

1. What is the definition of Genocide? Out of the list of various genocides that have occurred in history, pick three to answer a few questions on, and one to research in depth.
Genocides in or of Rwanda, Darfur (Sudan), Cambodia, Armenians in Turkey, Bosnia, Nanking (Nanjing), Crusades, Native American Peoples, Kurdistan, or any others you have found in research.
*YOU ARE NOT TO USE THE HOLOCAUST OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR*

2. Answer these questions briefly for three of the above genocides:
 Where did it happen?
 How many were killed
 Who were the opposing sides?
 Is there peace now?

3. Pick one of the genocides and do a full write-up on it answering the above questions as well as others. Give great detail on how and why it took place, the opposing sides of the confrontation, countries who were allies to either of the opposing sides, what was done to stop it, and what could have been done to stop it. Finish this piece by discussing your personal reaction to the information that you have read and stating what you have learned through the experience of reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and doing this research.

Note: You can make a difference in our world. Check out some of these websites to see how you can help despite all of the atrocities that you have read about. Some are: Product (RED), freerice.com, Me to We, and Ten Thousand Villages. We worry about our cell phone bills, and being able to stay out late, while millions of people worry about being hungry, or getting killed.
